agreed, not 100% identical, which i believe is why when those who are serious about trading GD & JGB shows, if the shn/flac files do not match the fingerprints at db.etree, they are a no-go for trading purposes; however, many take a more relaxed approach and that's perfectly fine if all parties are cool with that method; for the past year or so i've been archiving my commercial music CDs via EAC > FLAC; not that i had all that many (less than 100), but it does compact the collection somewhat; by the by, sorry for not replying to your e-mail of several weeks ago, i get stuck in these non-communicating modes, but i'm sure to pop out of it one of these days ...

I think there are fluctuations in spin speeds that cause slight differences, which doesn't bother me because I'm not an audio guy.

I did see that there's a media center app for Windows that plays even Flac and Shn, "XBMC Media Center":
